🌊 An ocean state of mind
Ep. 50: Checking in on yourself, the magic of trails (regardless of distance), and the transformative power of vacation.
This will be a tough week! I’m in the midst of traveling home after a blissful week of cruising between Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Germany. Switching gears back into work mode is going to be interesting…
A Tip for the Modern Worker
Get those well visits in. Your insurance likely covers well visits to your primary doctor, dentist, and eye doctor. Plus, you don’t need to take a full day to get those things taken care of when you're not commuting to an office. Take advantage of those benefits and stay healthy!
This tip is one of 365 in my Handbook for the Modern Worker. I really appreciate being able to take care of medical, vision, and dental matters with a minimum of disruption to my work day. Annual physical? Check. Annual eye exam? Check. Twice-yearly teeth cleaning? Check (but I really don’t care for that one).
#365DayDraw
I drew this and wrote the accompanying annotation as part of my #365DayDraw project 7 years ago today.
Okay, yes. Very creepy. I ran a race called Lucifer's Crossing and am glad he wasn't on the trail
I love Ithaca’s running scene. There’s always something to do, and I gravitate toward trails whenever I can. Lucifer’s Crossing (named so because it runs by Lucifer Falls) is a fantastic opportunity to run in Robert Treman Park. When I ran it, the only distance was the ominous 6.66 miles, though now you can opt for shorter or longer routes.
Commentary
I spent the week aboard Explora I (cue the prolonged exhale of satisfaction). This was our first cruise experience, and the primary goal of going was to see Xander perform as a musician. Mission accomplished! It was so good to see him doing his thing, and for us to have a lot of quality family time.
I intended for this to be a bit of a travelogue, but I’m exhausted. Staying up waaaay past my normal bedtime, combined with the effects of jet lag, have left this writer rather speechless. So, I hope you enjoy a few pictures of the journey, with the promise of a more complete account in the coming weeks.
So great to see Xander living his best life!
