⛷️ I feel the need for speed
Ep 65: A very happy birthday, a unique way of saying yes, and a weekend of spectating women's World Cup in Mont-Tremblant.
Happy December! Where did the year go? After spending a weekend standing around in the snow, I’m definitely in a winter mood. There’s nothing white on the ground yet where I live, but there’s still a few weeks for Mother Nature to put on a show for us in time for Christmas.
A Tip for the Modern Worker
Remember that you’re the captain. You'll set so many courses in life. Your career. Where to live. How to invest your time. Choosing who you surround yourself with. If you find you have to course-correct during your journey, that’s life. You’re the captain of your ship, so your direction is ultimately up to you. You might need to consult and consider others (hello, family), but at the end of the day, make choices for yourself.
This tip is one of 365 in my Handbook for the Modern Worker. It’s easy to get caught up in what you think is best. The best answer, though, is what’s best for you.

I drew this and wrote the accompanying annotation as part of my #365DayDraw project 7 years ago today.
What says "Sweet 16" better than a bowl full of ice cream?! My kids are growing up so quickly
Ah, seven years ago! That means today’s a special day for Elizabeth again. Happy birthday, Elizabeth!
Commentary
In 2016, when Killington announced they'd host the first World Cup ski race in the East in 25 years, we knew we had to go. I wrote about spectating that amazing weekend in November 2016. So, when Mont-Tremblant announced that they'd host a World Cup ski race for the first time in 40 years, we jumped at the chance to get tickets.
We had a wonderful weekend in Mont-Tremblant, taking in the sights and sounds surrounding the competition of the world’s best women’s skiers. It was a commitment to drive the 6+ hours each way, and sadly in rain and snow both ways, but it was 100% worth it. What a great way to celebrate Elizabeth’s birthday! Take a closer look at the action in the video compilation below, or read more about it in my longer-form post.
Miscellanea
🇸🇪 They have a very unique way of saying "Yes” in northern Sweden. One of the Swedish racers confirmed this to the crowd during Saturday night’s bib draw at Mont-Tremblant.
🦨 Do you live in Central New York? One of the first races of the season for us is Ithaca’s Skunk Cabbage Classic 10K and Half Marathon. It’s on April 7 this year, the day before the total solar eclipse that inspires their 2024 theme: Total Eclipse of the Skunk. I’m registering just for the amazing shirt, but I’ll run the race too.
Such a fun weekend! Love that you put all the video together!
